The minutes of a special meeting of the North Plainfield Board of Education held on March 15, 2010 at Watchung School, 33 Mountain Avenue, North Plainfield, NJ. Mrs. Bond-Nelson called the meeting to order and made the following announcement: In accordance with NJSA 10:4-10, required advance notice of this meeting was filed with the Borough Clerk; submitted to the COURIER NEWS, STAR LEDGER, AND Comcast; posted at Watchung School, Borough Hall and the North Plainfield Public Library. Following the Pledge of Allegiance, Mrs. Bond-Nelson requested the call of the roll:

A quorum was established.
Also present were Dr. Marilyn Birnbaum, Superintendent of Schools; Donald Sternberg, Board Secretary/School Business Administrator; and Dr. Robert Rich, Assistant Superintendent and Board Attorney, Dennis McKeever, of Lindabury, McCormick and Estabrook.
Mr. Smith moved, seconded by Mr. Allen and unanimously approved to adjourn to executive session for confidential matters relating to students at 6:50 pm.
The meeting reconvened to public session at 10:00 pm with the same members present.
Recommendations of the Superintendent
Mr. Smith moved, seconded by Mrs. Mullen and unanimously approved that for the 2009-2010 school year, the Board of Education approve a revision to the school calendar to include March 29, 2010 as a day that schools will be open with regularly scheduled classes in session.
Mr. Smith moved, seconded by Mrs. Szaroleta and unanimously approved by roll call vote that student, EX-3 be suspended effective March 15, 2010 through April 21, 2010 pending further evaluations and review by the Board of Education.

Mr. Smith moved, seconded by Mrs. Szaroleta and unanimously approved by roll call vote that student, EX-4 be expelled from the North Plainfield Public Schools effective March 15, 2010.

Mr. Smith moved, seconded by Mrs. Szaroleta and unanimously approved by roll call vote that student, EX-5 be expelled from the North Plainfield Public Schools effective March 15, 2010.
