The minutes of a special meeting of the North Plainfield Board of Education held on May 20, 2010 at Watchung School, 33 Mountain Avenue, North Plainfield, NJ. Mrs. Bond-Nelson called the meeting to order and made the following announcement: In accordance with NJSA 10:4-10, required advance notice of this meeting was filed with the Borough Clerk; submitted to the COURIER NEWS, STAR LEDGER, AND Comcast; posted at Watchung School, Borough Hall and the North Plainfield Public Library and the school district website. Following the Pledge of Allegiance, Mrs. Bond-Nelson requested the call of the roll:

A quorum was established
Also present were Dr. Marilyn Birnbaum, Superintendent of Schools; Donald Sternberg, Board Secretary/School Business Administrator; Jennifer Osborne, Board Attorney and approximately 2 members of the staff and public.
Mr. Branan moved, seconded by Mr. Allen and unanimously approved to adjourn to executive session at 7:00 pm for confidential matters relating to students, personnel, contract negotiations, litigation, and/or any other matter considered confidential by federal or state law at pm.
The meeting re-convened to public session with the same members present at 7:30 pm.
Mr. Branan moved, seconded by Mr. Allen and unanimously approved to take from the table the motion concerning the field hockey coach.
Mr. Branan moved, seconded by Mr. Allen and unanimously approved that for the 2009-2010 school year, the Board of Education approve the appointment of Robyn Enderle as intramural field hockey coach at the stipend of $1,197.
Mr. Branan moved, seconded by Mr. Allen and approved by a vote of 4 to 0 with Mr. Allen, Mr. Branan and Mr. Kasper abstaining that be it
Resolved, that the Board of Education recommend approval of the contract of employment between the North Plainfield Board of Education and Dr. Marilyn E. Birnbaum for the position of Superintendent of Schools for the period of July 1, 2009 through June 30, 2014.

Mrs. Bond-Nelson asked for public comment and or discussion of the previous motion.
Mr. Allen asked about ideas for the future direction of the District and the biggest challenges ahead.
Mrs. Bond-Nelson commented that this contract has been approved by the Executive County Superintendent of Somerset County.
Mr. Branan moved, seconded by Mr. Allen to adjourn at 7:50 pm.
