Third grade will be a year of tremendous growth for your child in so many ways. They will be asked to "stretch" their minds and assume new responsibilities appropriate for their age. The 3rd curriculum is very full and makes for an intense school day packed with a multitude of learning activities.
In 3rd grade, your child will copy down homework assignments in their Student Planner every day. They will bring the Planner home every night and must bring it back to school every morning. Your child will also have a bright red Homework Folder that will contain homework papers as well as notices and informational sheets for parents. Please check this nightly and help your child remember to bring it back to school every day with their completed homework.
At home, it would be beneficial to provide your child with a quiet place to do their homework. It would be helpful to have pencils, crayons, scissors, a glue stick, a ruler, and blank and lined paper on hand for them to use as needed throughout the year.
Third graders DO have snack time every day at around 10:05AM. Please send healthy snacks only! Do not send cookies, candy, cupcakes, soda, potato chips, or anything else that is loaded with fat or sugar. The best choices for snack are fresh fruit, yogurt, a cheese stick, pretzels, whole wheat crackers, or 100% juice. Also, please help your child do his/her best in school by making sure that he/she eats a nutritious breakfast every morning. It is difficult for children to work for several hours without any fuel to keep them going!
BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS Please feel free to send in a birthday treat to share with the class for your child's birthday. Cupcakes are the most popular. If you would like to include something to drink, please send juice packs or boxes rather than large bottles.
SMOCKS Art class can get messy! To protect your child's clothing, please send in a "smock" labeled with their name that can be worn over their school clothes. An old over-sized shirt works well!
It is extremely important that students get enough sleep so that they are rested and ready to learn when they arrive at school. Please make sure that they are tucked into bed by 8:30 or 9 at the absolute latest on school nights!
Thank you! Mrs. Hansen
