Reading Revolution
From January through March, all East Enders will be participating in theEast End Reading Revolution.  Everyone in the school will be on one of two teams: The Drakes or the Vermeules (two famous North Plainfield area families).   Students can win prizes for themselves, for their team, and for the whole school by reading books and logging them.
The Reading Revolution hopes to inspire East End students to read more and to encourage their parents to read to them regularly.  To find out more about the Reading Revolution or to print out a log, please visit the Library website.

energy The faculty and students at East End School would like to thank Somerset County Clean Communities for sponsoring the assembly held on January 25, 2012.  The program Professor Winklebottom Saving Our Earth: Recycle was enjoyed by all.  This assembly had everyone laughing, singing, and learning about Earth Science.

On Tuesday, January 17, 2012 the Museum of Early Trades and Crafts visited our school.  Their objective was to introduce the students to various games that children in Colonial Times played after their chores had been completed. The students were able to participate in a multitude of hands-on activities.
The Kindergarteners and First graders sanded and painted wooden tops.  The Second and Third graders made marbles out of clay.  They were even able to bring their marbles home in burlap sacks.  When the Fourth  graders visited the gym, they made tin punch hearts using hammers, nails, and tin.  Several of the students even commented that they were interested in completing this activity at home with their families.  In addition the employees from the museum also discussed what children whose age was similar to students at East End would be doing if they were living in Colonial America.
The Building Objective Committe along with Mrs. Herrmann and the rest of the staff is very appreciative of all the support given by our PTO.  Not only was this activity paid for by our PTO but they also had its members volunteer to help throughout the day.

puppets

Thanks to the generous support of the Borough of North Plainfield, the East End students enjoyed seeing two puppet shows entitled The Giving Tree and The Selfish Litterbug Giant.  The program was very informative and the students not only learned how to keep the environment clean, but they also saw how puppets were made and how they work. The presenter, Mariah Newborne travels across the country performing to students of all ages.
