Read to Feed
East End School will be holding its annual READ to FEED book sale on June 4th, 5th and 6th. All proceeds
will be donated to Heifer International, a non-profit organizationwhich uses the money to buy
animals and livestock for disadvantaged families throughout the US and the world.
Instead of providing disadvantagedfamilies with food or money, which would only help for a little while, HeiferInternational provides families with a “living loan” of an animal. They train the receiving
family in animal care, community development, and earth-friendly farming practices so they can help themselves. The family’s health and standard of living improves by the many benefits their animal
can provide – milk, eggs, wool, fertilizer, and so much more. The family receiving the animal must in turn
agree to repay the loan by passing one or more of their animal’s offspring to another family in need.
Before long, an entire community benefits from the one animal donated.
This will be our fifth Read to Feed booksale. Thousands and thousands of books exchanged hands
among our students! With the funds raised, we have been able to purchase 6 heifers, 2 llamas,
6 sheep, 3 goats, 4 rabbits, and 6 flocks of chicks and geese for families who are less fortunate.
Please send in any unwanted books to help with this worthwhile cause.
For further information, pleasecontact Heifer International’s web site at www.heifer.org,
or the Read to Feed Committee.
