The 2023-2024 NPSD book club is underway!
This year we are reading Ruthless Equity: Disrupt the Status Quo and Ensure Learning for ALL Students. Our kickoff meeting included a visit with the author, Ken Williams.
2022-2023 Book Club
During the 2022-2023 school year, we convened our 3rd annual book club to read Culturally Responsive Teaching: Theory, Research and Practice by Geneva Gay. This text included a section, "practicing possibilities", which provided teachers and staff with helpful insights and practical ideas for connecting with and supporting all learners.
2021-2022 Book Club
Our second after-school book study centered Dare to Lead by Brene Brown. The meetings took place during 2021-2022 with over 25 staff members from all our district schools participating. This text added another layer onto the work which began with Courageous Conversations About Race with continued calls to courage and discussions on vulnerability.
2020-2021 Book Club
An after-school book study of Courageous Conversations about Race by Glenn E. Singleton took place during 2020-2021 with over 30 staff members from all our district schools participating. This text complemented our community’s work on equity, as it dove into the need for candid conversations about race so that educators may understand why achievement inequality persists.
