Curriculum Overview

NPSD Preschool Students

The North Plainfield school district utilizes the NJ state recommended Creative Curriculum. The goal of this curriculum is to help children become independent, self-confident, inquisitive and enthusiastic learners by actively exploring and manipulating a structured and rich learning environment. 

The curriculum addresses goals in all areas of development.  The classroom environment including carefully selected materials, planned activities, daily schedule and overall structure are designed to accomplish curriculum goals and objectives.  Literacy, math, science, social studies, the arts, and technology skills are incorporated throughout the day. 

The preschool classroom is composed of learning centers where students actively explore, manipulate and practice concepts through engagement in center time.  

Centers include a variety of the following:

Dramatic Play Library (Including Technology)
Blocks Music
Toys & Games (Learning Manipulatives) Discovery (Science)
Art Outdoors/Large Motor Development

Teaching Strategies GOLD Assessment Tool

In conjunction with the curriculum, Teaching Strategies GOLD, an online assessment tool used to document and evaluate children's skills, knowledge, behaviors and accomplishments across a wide variety of curriculum areas. Collected information is used to enhance teaching and learning as well as to keep track of each child's individual achievement. Students are observed during their regular classroom activities and their progress is formally reported three times a year.
