Academic Support at Stony Brook School
The Academic Support Program provides students with in-class, small group and/or individual instruction. Children are identified as in need of academic support through a variety of methods, including the DRA – Developmental Reading Assessment (grades K-4), mathematics assessments (grades K and 1), MAP tests (Measure of Academic Progress), and teacher recommendations. Groups are formed based on reading levels and assessment scores. The Academic Support Teacher is a certified educator who provides intervention and instruction to the students in cooperation with the classroom teacher and according to the children’s learning needs.
