How Together is Better is Showing Up in the District

Students know that working together is better when they're in need of assistance in math class: they use their skills to help each other understand the content and collaborate to understand the math better, together! - Ms. Stassfurth, NPMS

We decided to make a community mural in our class promoting the ideas of sharing and collaborating with each other. - Mr. Nicolato, Stony Brook

Together is Better has impacted my work as a teacher by reinforcing the importance of building a strong sense of community in my classroom. It’s inspired me to focus on helping students feel connected and valued, knowing that meaningful learning happens when they feel they belong! - Ms. Reilly, East End School

Together is Better served as our classroom theme to start the year. We completed several activities that talked about our identities and how working together as a classroom community is better for everyone. Our outside bulletin board featured our hands, the phrase Together is Better, and poems about ourselves. Inside our classroom, we also created identity maps to display who we are as individuals!
– Teacher at Somerset

Together is Better has positively impacted my work as a second-grade teacher by reinforcing the importance of collaboration, trust, and a sense of belonging in the classroom. We learned about communities during social studies and different ways we can come together to help each other.  The students created their own “friendship town” where they created five friendship rules that belong to their town. The message in this book about the power of working together has inspired me to create a classroom environment where students feel safe and welcomed. It has inspired me to create opportunities for students to work together and support one another.  - Ms. Perez, East End School

Students are coming together to participate in the Continental Math League (CML) during their recess and lunch periods on Fridays. This enrichment opportunity is open to all fifth and sixth graders, and it provides a chance for students to practice as a team while solving challenging math problems. By preparing for this math competition together, students are discovering that learning and competing are more enjoyable and effective when done as a team. Together is Better in action!
