Superintendent's Message

  • Learning, achievement, and accomplishments are occurring among all our students and throughout all our schools.  I would like to share some recent news that spans the areas of academic achievement, social and emotional learning and artistic expression, encompassing a multi-faceted snapshot of our school district as we enter Spring 2017.

111 members of the Class of 2017 have been offered college admission through our College Instant Decisions Days! Students were awarded over $1 million in merit-based scholarships ($1,183,200) during these sessions. Colleges/Universities that conducted Instant-Decision Days at North Plainfield High School include the College of St. Elizabeth, NJIT, Rowan University, Rider University, Caldwell University, Kean University, Fairleigh Dickinson University, New Jersey City University, Bloomfield College, Delaware State University, Seton Hall University, Centenary University,Cabrini University, and St. Peter's University.  Over $6,000 in application fees were also saved by students.

Somerset School has been named as a New Jersey State School of Character.  Last year only 13 schools throughout the state of New Jersey were named as a School of Character.  We are tremendously proud of Somerset School which has not only been named to this honor but whose staff have also been invited to present at the State conference and the National Conference on Character in Washington DC.  Following North Plainfield High School being named as a State and National School of Character in 2016, it is clear that our district’s schools serve as true leaders in social and emotional education.

Planning for 2017-2018 is in full swing.  The scheduling process is underway for our high school students and our 8th graders are being oriented to their new September home in NPHS!  New student registration begins on March 6th and we look forward to our newest preschool class who will be joining us.

Please set aside April 7th and visit NPHS for the  21st Annual District Arts Festival anytime from 6 p.m to 9 p.m.  I am sure you will be impressed with the creativity and talents of our students in the areas of dance, music, drama, culinary and color guard performance.

We continue to be truly excited at the achievements of our students as the “ Unlock Potential and Create Impact”.
